Mammoth Grinder/Hatred Surge-Split 12"

Mammoth Grinder Side:

Saying this band has recently stepped it up a notch would be an understatement. The band trades a little more of the hardcore influence for more metal(this was apparent on the Extinction of Humanity 12" but things seem more focused this time around). Absolutely no filler with these guys just 3 ragers that are done by the book that will have you head banging and cutting pentagrams into your skin in no time.

Hatred Surge Side:

Grind kings. There have been some major changes for this band recently, well the one that is most noticeable is that Faiza is no longer with the band. Filling the gap for her is Rahi Geramifar of Insect Warfare. Don't get me wrong Rahi is the man and when I saw him play with Hatred Surge they fucking killed it but there was just something i loved about the male/female vocals together. Anyways, the Surge goes on. This batch of songs is not unlike those off their Deconstruct 12", the breakdown and blast beat still being their greatest weapon when combined properly. My favorite song on this one so far would be the mid tempo banger "Disconnected".

Summary:

Both bands do work on this split and i cant think of another two bands that go together so well. The more I listen to this one the better it gets. Released on Cyclopean Records. Sold out, perhaps a 2nd press will follow the 1st. Red vinyl for the pre-order.

Birth Deformities-Demo CS

Members of Culo and one other come together to form Birth Deformities, a snot nosed punk outfit based out of Chicago hell bent on killing beers and ignoring their towns PC perspective. The songs are a mix of punk from various decades and a touch of 80's hardcore, which helps keep the energy level high. Song titles like "Nobody likes me" and "Hate group" should give you an idea of what the lyrics are all about. Catchy, hateful, and sometimes humorous Birth Deformities is a breath of fresh air and a reminder that not everything needs to be taken so seriously all the time.

Self released by the band and limited to a hundred copies. Available from Cowabunga Records but probably wont be around for long.

Return

No reviews for awhile, not going to make excuses though instead here's a couple updates.

First off if you live in Socal you need to be at this show, School Jerks and Culo are two great touring bands and they both have new records out that you need to pick up.

Now onto the reviews, Low Threat Profile and Raw Nerve.

Low Threat Profile-Product #2

The long awaited LP from the all star group Low Threat Profile. Product #2 picks up where the 7" left off. Rager after rager this band burns through this 12" faster then you can say "Instant classic". The vocals are gruff and the music just doesn't let up whether the songs or short or not as short they are all well crafted and leave echos of your hardcore favorites of the past. Recommended for everyone.

Released on Draw Blank and Deep Six.

Raw Nerve-Nervous Habits CS

Just a taste of whats to come in 2011 Raw Nerve strike back hard with this very short 3 song tape. Two original monsters that mix hectic punk with the best hardcore mosh parts not unlike what was on their Lp. The third song is a Sonics cover that has such a dark sounding twist to it that you would think these Chicago boys wrote it themselves.

Raw Nerve will have a lot going on in months to come. A record store day exclusive LP only available at Reckless Records, a new 7" entitled "Midnight" on YA! and a split with Culo on Cowabunga.

Nervous Habits was a very limited release on Youth Attack. Check ebay or take it from your friends house when he isn't looking.

Glam-s/t 7"

Im guessing this is from the same circle of guys that brought us Invasion and then later Destino Final. Though that might be the case Glam is doing their own thing and play brief, violent and pummeling hardcore all while that gloomy sound you heard on the Invasion records resonates in the air. The record is over before you know it and youll probably be flipping it over for a second or third listen. I definitely think this is something everyone should check out. Crossing my fingers for another release.
